Local cooperation a pillar in Vietnam-Japan relations

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the Vietnamese government highly values the strengthening of cooperation between localities in Vietnam and Japan, considering it a key pillar in the overall relationship between the two countries.

On August 26, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son received the Governor of Aichi Prefecture (Japan), Omura Hideaki, on a working visit to Vietnam.

During the meeting, Governor Omura Hideaki congratulated Minister Bui Thanh Son on his election by the National Assembly as Deputy Prime Minister and expressed his pleasure in being the first international guest received by the Deputy Prime Minister.

Discussing cooperation with Vietnam, Governor Omura Hideaki noted that Aichi Prefecture had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on promoting investment with Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment, and another MOU on friendly cooperation with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

During this visit to Vietnam, Governor Omura Hideaki also held meetings with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and airlines such as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet to discuss opportunities for cooperation between Aichi Prefecture and Vietnam in the fields of transportation and investment.

According to Governor Omura Hideaki, there are currently over 200 companies headquartered in Aichi Prefecture that are investing in Vietnam, making Aichi the leading Japanese locality in terms of the number of companies investing in Vietnam.

Aichi Prefecture is also home to about 60,000 Vietnamese residents, making it the Japanese locality with the largest Vietnamese community, followed by Tokyo with around 54,000 people.

Governor Omura Hideaki expressed a desire for the Vietnamese government to consider opening a Consulate General in Nagoya and encouraged airlines to increase flight frequency and open new routes to Aichi Prefecture.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his satisfaction with the qualitative progress in Vietnam-Japan relations, highlighted by the upgrade of the bilateral relationship framework to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Appreciating the cooperation between Aichi Prefecture and Vietnam's ministries, sectors and localities, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese government places great importance on enhancing cooperation between the localities of both countries, seeing it as a key pillar in the overall bilateral relationship.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son requested that Aichi Prefecture continue to focus on and promote further investment from its companies in Vietnam, particularly in areas where the prefecture has strengths, such as automobile manufacturing, railways, aviation and high-tech agriculture. He assured that the Vietnamese government is striving to improve institutions and administrative reforms to create favorable conditions for Japanese companies to invest and do business successfully in Vietnam.

The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that Aichi Prefecture expand its acceptance of Vietnamese trainees and workers to contribute to the socio-economic development of Aichi Prefecture while helping Vietnam train high-quality human resources to serve the country's industrialization and modernization.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son expressed a desire for Aichi Prefecture to support and facilitate Vietnamese airlines in increasing flight frequencies and opening new routes to Aichi Prefecture, contributing to the promotion of trade relations, investment, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges between Aichi and localities in Vietnam./.
