Vietnam – Malaysia’s important strategic partner

Granting the Voice of Vietnam an interview, he noted that the diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam was established in 1973. Since then, the relationship between the two countries has become more and more solid and has constantly developed on both bilateral and multilateral levels. According to the Malaysian Ambassador, Vietnam is one of Malaysia's important strategic partners in fields where economic and trade cooperation are the highlight.

“Vietnam is one of the most attractive destinations for foreign investors, especially Malaysian investors. With a strong economy, the amount of foreign direct investment capital pouring into the Vietnamese market has continuously increased in recent years. Malaysia is interested in cooperating with Vietnam in areas with great potential such as agriculture and fisheries, halal products, processed food, and electronic components. Malaysia-Vietnam trade turnover in 2022 reached USD19.44 billion, up 16.2% compared to 2021. This is a great success in the context that the bilateral turnover target has been set at USD18 billion,” he said.

According to the Malaysian Ambassador, the two countries should make the most of initiatives to strengthen trade cooperation, such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), signed when Vietnam assumed the role of Chairman of ASEAN 2020. He also expressed his optimism that the relationship between the two countries will continue to develop with bilateral and multilateral efforts, especially within the ASEAN framework.

He added that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Malaysia relations, the Malaysian Embassy in Hanoi will organize many exchange and commemorative activities./.
