The gift includes 12 packages of textbooks and notebooks for students from grade 1 to 5, fairy tales published by the Vietnam Education Publishing House.
These books are presented to Vietnamese language centres in the Czech Republic to serve Vietnamese teaching and learning among the community. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Director of the Vietnamese Language Centre in Prague, the gift is very significant because it is the basis for standardizing Vietnamese teaching and learning abroad. Teachers will use the textbooks as teaching materials for children in the coming time.
Founded more than 10 years, the centre has gained much experience in Vietnamese teaching and learning methods. In early July, the centre opened a summer class for Vietnamese children in Prague and surrounding areas. Many parents enrolled their children with the desire of maintaining and improving their children’s ability to listen, speak, read and write Vietnamese language.
Le Hong Nhung, a teacher of the centre for many years, said that she and other teachers were very pleased to receive the standard textbooks of the Ministry of Education and Training for overseas Vietnamese students. However, the application of knowledge in the textbooks should be done in a flexible, creative way, suitable with the level, age and ability of the students in the Czech Republic.
There are about 65,000 Vietnamese people in the Czech Republic. The Vietnamese community is favored to enjoy the benefits stipulated by the law on ethnic minority communities, such as being represented among ethnic minorities councils at the local as well as central levels, being part of discussions on ethnic minorities, being allowed to maintain their full names in their mother tongue, having the right to learn the mother tongue in schools, and having the right to uphold and promote the national cultural identity.
However, the majority of the second and third generations of the Vietnamese community can’t speak much of their mother tongue, so it is very necessary to teach Vietnamese language to overseas Vietnamese.
Ms. Pham Thu Huong, Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic, hoped that these above textbooks would be used effectively to contribute to the preservation and development of Vietnamese language in the community, as well as to promote Vietnamese cultural identity in the country./.
