Speaking at the congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam highly appreciated AVIJ's activities in recent years.

The Ambassador affirmed that, although the COVID-19 pandemic has had a very negative impact on the activities of the Vietnamese community in Japan, AVIJ still operates effectively, including the successful organization of the Vietnam Summit in Japan.

He hoped that in the new term, with stronger resources and networks, AVIJ will coordinate more effectively with other organizations of the Vietnamese community in Japan in holding activities as well as contributing to the development of science and technology of the country.

On behalf of the Executive Board of AVIJ, Mr. Le Duc Anh, Chairman of AVIJ, presented the report to summarize the activities of the association in the 2019-2021 term.

He affirmed that one of AVIJ's most outstanding activities over the last term was the successful organization of the Vietnam Summit in Japan in 2019 and 2021.

Notably, the first Vietnam Summit in Japan was held very successfully in November 2019, attracting the participation of nearly 900 Vietnamese intellectuals inside and outside Japan, along with representatives of a number of ministries and branches of the Government of Vietnam.

At the congress, the delegates discussed the direction of AVIJ's activities in the coming time and elected a new Executive Board for the 2021-2023 term, led by Mr. Ta Viet Phuong, a Vietnamese intellectual working for the Amazon Corporation in Japan, as President.

Speaking after being elected, Mr. Phuong pledged to make every effort to enhance the association's operational efficiency, including rearranging the organizational structure and completing the website.

According to Mr. Ta Viet Phuong, in the new term, AVIJ will build a database for Vietnamese scientists and experts in Japan and support activities to promote science, technology, culture and education cooperation between the two countries and at the same time organize many activities to mark the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Japan diplomatic relations.

As part of the Vietnamese community in Japan, AVIJ will participate in the process of building and developing the friendly relationship between the two countries through cultural and economic, socio-economic, science and technology exchanges, and especially, participate in a series of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations.

AVIJ was established in November 2019, with the aim of connecting Vietnamese individuals and intellectual groups of Vietnam in Japan to create collective strength, and at the same time enhance the position and role of the Vietnamese intellectuals community in Japan, thereby contributing to Vietnam’s development as well as the friendly relationship between the two countries./.
