Dien Bien Phu victory celebrated in Brazil

The Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil solemnly organized a friendly meeting in the capital Brasília on May 7 to review, evaluate and share the significance and historical memory of the Dien Bien Phu victory and 35 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Brazil.

The event was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, 35 years of Vietnam - Brazil diplomatic relations and the 134th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, with the participation of over 70 delegates.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi said that Brazil is the region's largest economy and Vietnam's number one trading partner in South America. In Vietnam, most people know that Brazil is a superpower country in football, the country of hot Samba dance with nearly 220 million fiery hearts.

In particular, the year of 2024 marks the determination to bring relations between the two countries to a new level. This is demonstrated by high-level visits, effective dialogues and cooperation enhancement in channels of party, state, parliamentary and people-to-people diplomacy, in the fields of agriculture, science - technology, culture, aerospace technology, sports, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The Ambassador also expressed his sympathy and sent the condolences to representatives of the state government of Rio Grande do Sul and the people who are suffering from widespread flooding that has killed nearly 90 people, left 130 missing and 150,000 homeless, and damaged local property and infrastructure.

Representing the Government of Brazil, Mr. Inácio Arruda, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chairman of ABRAVIET, said that 2024, the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Vietnam, will be an important milestone to implement bilateral agreements and commitments and in multilateral forums more substantively and effectively.

He affirmed that on the multilateral level, Vietnam and Brazil maintain close coordination at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.

Regarding bilateral activities, in 2024, the two countries will coordinate closely in organizing activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Vietnam – Brazil diplomatic relation establishment; the Prime Minister of Vietnam plans to attend the G20 Summit at the invitation of the President of Brazil; promote commemorations marking President Ho Chi Minh's journey in Rio de Janeiro City in 1912; enhance cultural, sports and tourism exchanges between the two countries.

He said that as Deputy Minister in charge of scientific development, he will send a group of experts to Vietnam to carry out specific scientific cooperation projects with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam in the second quarter of this year.

Also on May 7, the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil organized an exhibition on the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Brazil; 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory, including images from the Dien Bien Phu campaign, images of people, culture and festivals in Dien Bien province, and images of military parades and marches on the occasion of 70 years of Dien Bien Phu victory held on the morning of May 7th./.
