Football tournament strengthens solidarity among overseas Vietnamese in Malaysia

The Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association (MVFA) on June 18 organized a men’s futsal tournament in the state of Selangor to boost solidarity among the overseas Vietnamese community in Malaysia.

The annual tournament attracted the participation of 50 players of five teams from across the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor state. The majority of them are Vietnamese labourers working in different sectors throughout Malaysia.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Dinh Ngoc Linh appreciated the idea to organize the tournament, which helps to create a useful playground for the Vietnamese community and strengthen the spirit of solidarity.

Speaking at the tournament, Ms Tran Thi Chang, President of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that event aims to create a playground for overseas Vietnamese in Malaysia, especially young people, to hold exchanges, strengthen solidarity, and promote the sports movement to improve health and fitness.

Established on March 8, 2022, the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association is an organization representing the Vietnamese community in Malaysia. It operates as a bridge to connect overseas Vietnamese in Malaysia and the Vietnamese Embassy in their host country.

According to incomplete statistics, there are currently over 30,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Malaysia. The Vietnamese community in Malaysia has made important contributions to the local economy, connecting and supporting each other, preserving and developing Vietnamese culture and actively participating in community and social charity activities./.
