In the short period since the major fire broke out on August 13 in the city of Nyíregyháza, which completely burned down the entire warehouse of seven Vietnamese families, the Vietnamese community has donated more than 6 million Ft (nearly 420 million VND) to support the families affected by the fire.

The fire caused huge material damage estimated at nearly 200 million Ft (13.7 billion VND).

Immediately after hearing about the fire, the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary sent representatives to visit and learn about the situation.

According to the announcement on August 17 from the Embassy, the warehouses that were burned down all belonged to young couples who had just come to Hungary to start their business. All their capital was poured into goods, which have now been burned. The families affected by the fire all had young children.

To support and share their losses, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Thao and the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Hungary promptly sent a letter calling on associations, clubs, fellow countrymen associations, businesses and individuals to join hands and provide financial support to help the victims overcome difficulties, soon stabilize their lives, and take care of their young children.

A fundraising committee was quickly established and collected 4,215,000 Ft (nearly 290 million VND) after more than two weeks of calling on the Vietnamese Embassy, businesses, associations, groups and individuals in Hungary to participate in the donations. The sum of money was given to seven families of victims in Budapest on September 9.

The Nghe Tinh and Yen Thanh Fellow Countrymen Associations also launched fundraising campaigns and collected 1,860,000 Ft (nearly 130 million VND), which was presented the families of the victims in Nyíregyháza City on September 5.

Mr. Le Trong Ha, Charge d'Affaires of the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary, said that although the donation cannot be compared to the great losses that the families have suffered, it shows the spirit of mutual love and mutual support of the Vietnamese community in times of trouble, especially when the majority of overseas Vietnamese have also encountered many difficulties in life and work in recent years.

Nyíregyháza city is about 240km from the capital Budapest and is home to more than 10 families with about 50 Vietnamese people./.
