At the ceremony, the delegates respectfully offered flowers and together reviewed stories surrounding the life, revolutionary career and great contributions of late General Secretary Le Duan to the country and people of Vietnam.

Growing up in the revolutionary struggle with nearly 60 years of activity, including 26 years as First Secretary and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (1960-1986), General Secretary Le Duan demonstrated that he was an outstanding leader, a profound and strategic theorist of the Vietnamese revolution, and a steadfast communist soldier of the international communist and workers' movements.

Mr. Duc shared that youth union members and students in Russia have always maintained activities of visiting and offering flowers at Le Duan Square, because this is one of the forms of teaching political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, patriotism and gratitude of youth union members and young people towards the senior leader of our Party and State.

On June 14, 1987, the square was named Le Duan Square to commemorate the leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The red marble commemorative stele, which was designed and completed by architect F.M.Gazhevsky in the early 1990s, is placed in the middle of the square.

This is the recognition of the Party, State and People of the Soviet Union for Comrade Le Duan's efforts to cultivate a strong Vietnam-Soviet friendship./.
