This information was revealed at a conference discussing development trends of world tourism and the pact on Vietnamese tourism held by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism on August 20th in Hanoi.

According to the UNWTO, the number of international tourists worldwide in 2018 has surpassed 1.4 billion. This is the second highest growth milestone from 2010 to the present. Notably, Southeast Asia continues to hold the highest growth in international tourists.

The organization forecast that by 2030, the number of international tourists around the globe will hit 1.8 billion. Southeast Asia will become the 4th largest attraction area in the world for international visitors.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute of Tourism Research and Development said that Vietnam greeted 8 million international tourist arrivals in 2015 but the number increased to 15.5 million in 2018. Total tourism revenue reached more than VND620 trillion. With this, in only three years, the number of foreign tourists to the country has nearly doubled. This year, the nation strives to receive about 17.5-18 million visitors.

According to experts, tourism trends of the world and Vietnam have changed from cash to card, using applications on smart phones. Tourists traveling postpaid are also popular trend. Booking services such as air tickets and hotels through smart phones have increased sharply.

Tourism and economic experts said that the digital technology platform will dominate tourism growth in the Asia Pacific, with 80% of trips booked online and 87% of young people using smart phones as a tool for traveling. Thereby, it can be seen that technology and social networks will be the future of the tourism industry in the world and in Vietnam./.
