Foreign direct investment (FDI) registered in Vietnam reached 22.46 billion USD as of October 20, down 5.4% year on year, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency.

However, compared to the same period last year, FDI disbursement posted 17.45 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 15.2%. The figure is forecast to hit 21-22 billion USD for the whole year, a year-on-year rise of 6.4-11.5%.
Notably, the total additional registered capital stood at over 8.74 billion USD, an annual rise of 23.3%.
During the period, nearly 9.93 billion USD was poured into 1,570 newly-licensed projects, down 23.7% in value but up 14.2% in volume over the same period last year.
The remaining investment capital was used for capital contribution and share purchases in a total 2,997 transactions.
The growth rate in the number of projects with capital adjustment continued to increase, reaching a higher level than the first 9 months of the year. In which Samsung Electro-mechanics Vietnam project (Thai Nguyen) saw a two-fold increase in capital (920 million USD and 267 million USD); Samsung HCMC CE Electronics Co., Ltd. project, up by USD 841 million; Factory manufacturing electronics, network equipment and multimedia audio products in Bac Ninh, Nghe An and Hai Phong, up by nearly 306 million USD, 260 million USD and 127 million USD, respectively.
Foreign investors landed investments in 18 sectors, with processing and manufacturing absorbing the largest amount of capital at more than 12.9 billion USD, accounting for 57.5% of the total.
Among 103 countries and territories having investment in Vietnam in the period, Singapore took the lead with 5.34 billion USD. Japan came second with more than 4.19 billion USD, and the Republic of Korea (RoK) was the third largest investor with 3.9 billion USD./.
