Ho Chi Minh City strives to be center for plant varieties and seeds

In 2023, Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City’s agricultural sector will focus on developing high-tech and biotechnology-applied agriculture to produce high-quality and high-yield plant seeds and breeds, making the southern hub a center for plant varieties and seeds of the region.

According to the City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, after the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, agricultural production has recovered and grown strongly. GRDP of agriculture, forestry and fishery in 2022 was estimated at 8,390 billion VND, an increase of 3.74% from the previous year; agricultural production value this year reached VND 19,035.6 billion, up 3.78%.

The city also saw many models of urban agricultural production with high economic efficiency due to the application of high technology, mainly focusing on key products.

According to a leader of the City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the southern city continues to accelerate agricultural restructuring, develop urban agriculture, and focus on developing key products in order to increase production value by 640-660 million VND per ha./.
