Vietnam absorbs over 14 billion USD of FDI capital in first six months

As of October 20, the total newly registered capital, adjusted and contributed capital to buy shares, of foreign investors reached 14.03 billion USD, as much as 91.1% over the same period in 2021, reported the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
The processing and manufacturing industry took the lead in attracting foreign investment. 

In particular, although newly registered capital has not fully recovered from the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, adjusted capital and contributed capital to buy shares increased sharply by 65.6% and 41.4%, respectively.

Foreign investors have invested in 18 industries out of a total of 21 national economic sectors. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry continued to lead with a total investment of nearly 8.84 billion USD, accounting for nearly 63% of the total registered investment capital.

The real estate sector ranked second with total investment capital of more than 3.15 billion USD, accounting for 22.5% of total registered investment capital.

As many as 84 countries and territories poured capital into Vietnam during the period, of which Singapore led with a total investment capital of more than 4.1 billion USD, accounting for 29.5% of total investment capital in the country. The Republic of Korea ranked second with over 2.66 billion USD, accounting for nearly 19% of total investment capital.

Also according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in the six months, Vietnam’s total newly-registered and adjusted overseas investment capital reached over 345.8 million USD, equaling 63.2% of the same period last year. There were 57 projects granted new investment registration certificates, with a total registered capital of 300.88 million USD, a 2.1-fold increase over the same period last year.

Vietnamese investors have invested abroad in 12 industries. As of June 20, Vietnam has 1,569 valid overseas investment projects with a total investment capital of over 21.56 billion USD. In which, 139 projects were invested by enterprises with state capital, with an investment capital of nearly 11.6 billion USD, accounting for 53.8% of the total.

Vietnam’s investment abroad mainly focused on the mining industry (32.3%) and agriculture, forestry and fishery (15.8%). Countries receiving the most investment from Vietnam are Laos (24.8%); Cambodia (13.6%); and Venezuela (8.5%)./.
