Irish newspapers report President’s visit to Vietnam

On November 6th, Irish Times reports that President Michael D Higgins has begun an eight-day visit to Vietnam and Laos that will focus on boosting bilateral ties, especially in trade, investment, development, education and training.

The visit marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic tie between Vietnam and Ireland and also aims to further enhance ties between Ireland and Vietnam, especially in trade, investment, development cooperation, education and training.

As scheduled, President Higgins will talk with State President Tran Dai Quang at the President Palace on November 7th and then he will also meet Chairwoman of National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Bilateral trade reached USD402 million in 2015, up 28 per cent from the previous year. Ireland currently has 17 investment projects with combined capital of USD20.7 million in Vietnam, ranking 67th among 115 countries and territories investing here.

Vietnam and Ireland have made strides in cooperation since their diplomatic relationship was set up on April 5th, 1996. They have regularly exchanged high-ranking delegations and coordinated at international forums./.
