Early in the first quarter, with cold weather, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development asked localities to increase measures on keeping animals warm by protecting the breeding grounds, preparing good sources of food and vaccinating the animals. The additional measures contributed to no animal deaths being reported.
In addition, breeding companies and farms actively invested in equipment for increasing production and to sufficiently supply to the markets.
When the weather became warmer, in early March, localities started poultry and cattle vaccination campaigns. According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of March 15th, over 1,700 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccines; nearly 47,600 doses of cholera and typhoid vaccines; over 28,400 doses of congestion vaccines; and 24 doses of rabies vaccines were injected.
Together with these efforts, decontamination work was regularly carried out across localities. So far they have used nearly 5,000 litres of chemicals to sterilize the environment in high risk areas.
Identifying that the prevention of diseases among cattle and poultry is an important task, localities and authorised forces have increased their inspection of poultry and cattle brought to the province. In the first quarter, 10 cases of illegal cattle and poultry transportation were uncovered, with all the animals culled to prevent a possible occurrence of the diseases./.
