Of which, the Earth Hour campaign, launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature, has been promoted in the province since 2010 by hanging panels and posters on climate change and Earth Hour, organising bicycle tournament to highlight the event, and reducing outdoor lighting systems at public areas, thus contributing to increasing the communities’ awareness in effective use and saving of energy, protecting the environment against climate change.
Each year, the provincial People’s Committee issues official documents asking agencies and enterprises to use power economically. In 2014, Quang Ninh province saved nearly 45 million kWh of power.
In 2015, the province targets a saving of 50 million kWh. To achieve the target, power saving programs have been carried out on larger scale and for longer period of time.
Earlier, the program titled “Families save power” was organised in 5 localities. This year, it is being carried out across all localities and from May to October instead of from July to October last year. Up to 8,000 customers are joining the program.
Similarly, the number of schools joining the program “Schools save power” will be increased to 16 from 8 last year. The program, scheduled in October, will not only be realised in localities that report high consumption of power but also in remote and coastal areas.
Moreover, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade is working closely with the provincial Electricity Company to give consultancy in power saving in every village and residential areas, make plans on inspecting the use of power every quarter and check up additional charge diagrams of key enterprises./.
