HCMC and Leipzig (Germany) promote cooperation in potential areas

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong on September 25 received Mr. Torsten Bonew, Deputy Mayor of Leipzig (Germany), and the delegation during their visit and participation in the HCMC Economic Forum 2024.

At the meeting, Mr. Cuong welcomed the delegation to HCMC and believed that the visit would be a premise for many new projects and cooperation activities between Germany and Vietnam, making practical contributions to bilateral relations, towards the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations in 2025.

According to the Vice Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee, the relations between HCMC and Germany are developing well, especially in the field of economics. Germany currently has 252 investment projects in the city with a total registered capital of over 378 million USD, ranking 14th out of 122 countries and territories investing in HCMC. There are currently 40 representative offices of German economic organizations in the city and the German Business Association in Vietnam operating in the city since 2018, serving as an important bridge to promote economic cooperation between the two sides.

In the coming time, HCMC will focus on solving many problems associated with the challenges of an urban area such as: traffic congestion, climate change, environmental pollution, flood reduction and clean water for people.

With the similarities and strengths of Leipzig, HCMC leaders proposed that the two localities cooperate to respond to climate change and energy transition. At the same time, Leipzig shares experiences in sustainable urban planning, resilience and environmentally friendly green technology transfers; cooperation in developing sustainable energy sources such as wind power and solar power.

In the context that HCMC is implementing key projects towards the goal of becoming a smart city, a financial, science and technology center of the region and the world, HCMC leaders hope that Leipzig will continue to connect and support German businesses operating in the fields of digital transformation, financial management, science and technology, and innovative startups to promote cooperation and increase investment in the city.

Mr. Torsten Bonew, Deputy Mayor of Leipzig (Germany), expressed his impression of the development of Vietnam as well as HCMC in recent times; he was pleased with the specific projects that the two cities have implemented.

According to Mr. Torsten Bonew, businesses in Leipzig are very interested in the environment and investment cooperation in HCMC. The establishment of the Representative Office of Leipzig City in HCMC has demonstrated this. In the future, the two cities will continue to promote cooperation in potential fields, contributing to strengthening the relationship, towards the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Germany diplomatic relations in 2025./.
