Nearly 80 degraded sidewalks and alleys in District 1 are being comprehensively upgraded to improve urban aesthetics and ensure traffic safety.

A series of streets and alleys in District 1 have been undergoing sidewalk renovations and upgrades, with a total investment of approximately VND220 billion. The project, managed by the District 1 Investment Project Management Board, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Sidewalks on streets such as Nguyen Thi Nghia, De Tham, Nguyen Trai, Huynh Thuc Khang, Pham Ngoc Thach, Nguyen Van Chiem, Nguyen Van Cu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, and Pham Ngu Lao are being refurbished by removing old tiles and carefully preparing the base before laying granite stones.
Pham Quach Truong Giang, Head of the District 1 Investment Project Management Board, stated that 12 sidewalks and 64 alleys in District 1 would be renovated during this phase. Additionally, many deteriorating alleys without drainage systems will be prioritized for funding by the local authorities.
"The granite paving on the sidewalks is very sturdy and clean," he said.
According to the project owner, the unit has reviewed the main roads with degraded or damaged sidewalks and proposed to the District 1 People's Committee to allocate funds for further renovations. The plan includes refurbishing an additional 37 sidewalks and 15 alleys in 2025, with an estimated budget of over VND400 billion.
In parallel, the District 1 People's Committee has been marking sidewalks on various streets to pilot the collection of temporary road and sidewalk usage fees. Ho Chi Minh City's central district currently has 155 streets and sidewalks that qualify for temporary usage as parking spots, service businesses, and for the buying and selling of goods, both with and without fees./.
