Ho Chi Minh City receives additional VND6.5 billion in donations for northern provinces

On September 18, the Relief Mobilization Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City received an additional VND6.5 billion from various organizations, businesses and departments to support the people in northern Vietnam affected by storms and floods.

Specifically, the AEON 1% Club (Japan) and its affiliated companies donated USD61,000 (equivalent to over VND1.4 billion). Mr. Furusawa Yasuyuki, a member of the Executive Board of AEON Group in charge of the Vietnamese market and General Director of AEON Vietnam, said that previously, AEON Vietnam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, donated over 5,000 packages of goods worth VND1 billion to promptly support the northern provinces affected by Typhoon Yagi.

Similarly, a representative from NovaGroup shared that the company had called on its employees to contribute at least one day's salary to support those affected by storms and floods. Many staff members voluntarily donated 5-10 days' wages. From September 12 to September 14, nearly VND1.5 billion was registered as contributions. Previously, Novaland Group, a key member of NovaGroup, also donated VND500 million to assist those affected by Typhoon Yagi.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, shared that the department had received contributions from entertainment companies and artists, such as Dat Viet VAC Group, and artists from various game shows who donated VND1 billion. Coaches and athletes in Ho Chi Minh City donated VND300 million, while a film crew contributed VND50 million.

Not only did artists and businesses join hands to support the northern people, but many lecturers in Ho Chi Minh City also contributed their entire retirement savings to the flood victims.

Professor Dr. Le Ngoc Thach, a visiting lecturer at the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, said that he donated his entire savings of VND1 billion, accumulated from retirement, teaching, and book royalties over the years, to support the northern people.

Captain Do Ngoc Duc from the Ho Chi Minh City Fire and Rescue Police Department also donated one month's salary to support the flood-affected northern people.

Additionally, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Youth Union donated VND1 billion to the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front to assist in storm and flood recovery efforts.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, stated that all contributions from individuals and organizations are being quickly distributed to the northern provinces. The priority is given to essential items such as medicines, water, food, milk, nutritional products and life jackets. Moreover, the city has dispatched volunteer teams to support the northern provinces in overcoming the aftermath of the storm. These teams include officers, soldiers, young doctors, union members and women’s association members./.
