The statue of President Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated and placed at the square bearing his name in the Akademichesky district of Moscow on May 18, 1990, a day before the 100th anniversary of his birth.
This is one of over 36 statues of President Ho Chi Minh erected in 22 countries worldwide. The monument is situated in a spacious area and was designed by sculptor Vladimir Efimovich Tsigal and architect Roman Grigoryevich Kananin.
The square where the statue is located covers an area of 676 square meters, featuring three landings and eight wide steps, symbolizing eight lotus petals. The statue of President Ho Chi Minh, made of bronze, stands 5 meters tall and rests on a 6-meter-long, 0.5-meter-thick bronze pedestal.
The central part of the ensemble is the gentle, smiling face of President Ho Chi Minh (made of bronze and granite), placed within a large circle symbolizing the sun. Below the circle is a statue of a vigorous young Vietnamese man, standing upright, looking toward the future, representing a Vietnam rising strong, building a prosperous and peaceful future.
Behind the circle are two bent bamboo trees, symbolizing the resilience and strength of the Vietnamese people. The base of the statue bears an inscription in Russian of President Ho Chi Minh's famous words from his call for the nation to fight against America in the Russian language saying that nothing is more precious than independence and freedom./.
