In 2024, Vietnam was ranked among the countries with a very high E-Government Development Index (EGDI), achieving a score of 0.7709, placing 71st out of 193 countries evaluated in the 13th United Nations (UN) E-Government Survey. Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranks 5th out of 11, moving up one spot compared to its 2022 assessment.

Previously, Vietnam maintained its position at 86th out of 193 countries in the evaluations of 2020 and 2022. In 2024, Vietnam advanced 15 places.

The UN stated that the rise of countries like Vietnam from a high to a very high EGDI group reflects their success in strengthening digital infrastructure, expanding internet connectivity, and implementing robust e-government frameworks. The UN acknowledged that Vietnam's significant investment in online public services is reflected in its new ranking. According to the UN, countries with very high EGDI and Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII) scores, such as Vietnam, can accelerate digital development by improving online public service delivery and developing human capital.

The E-Government Survey report is based on several factors, including online government services, telecommunications infrastructure, adult population literacy and digital participation. The report highlights that, compared to previous years, more countries are utilizing technology and expanding digital services for their citizens and businesses.

Europe continues to lead in e-government development, followed by Asia, the Americas, Oceania and Africa. Denmark, Estonia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea and Iceland top the list of 20 countries with the most advanced digital public services.

The report recommends fully digitizing public services and enhancing telecommunications infrastructure, improving the legal environment for digital development—especially with pioneering technologies like AI, cloud computing, open data licensing, and digital identity—and encouraging public participation in policy-making and decision-making processes./.
