Detailed scheme for northern ports group ratified

The Ministry of Transport has issued Decision 2367/QĐ-BGTVT, ratifying the detailed scheme for northern ports group (Group 1) by 2020, with a vision to 2030.

Hai Phong port

Group 1 includes four ports: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh and Hai Thinh- Nam Dinh.

Hai Phong is a national port complex and an international gateway (Type IA). Freight via the port is forecast to reach about 109 to 114 million tonnes a year  by 2020 and around 178.5-210 million tonnes a year by 2030, while maritime international tourist arrivals is expected to hit 25,800 a year by 2020 and 46,900 a year by 2030.

Quang Ninh is a national port complex and a regional link (Type I) with cargo volume of about 65.5-75.5 million tonnes a year by 2020 and around 121-142.5 million tonnes a year by 2030. Maritime foreign tourist arrivals is forecast to hit 252,200 a year by 2020 and about 723,200-823,200 a year by 2030.

Thai Binh is a local port complex (Type II) which includes Diem Dien and Tra Ly wharf zones. It is expected to receive about two million tonnes of cargo a year by 2020 and about 6.25 million tonnes a year by 2030.

Hai Thinh-Nam Dinh is a local port complex (Type II) which includes Hai Thinh wharf zone and a special wharf for Nam Dinh thermo-power plant. Cargo capacity through the port is forecast to reach 0.5 million tonnes a year by 2020 and about 6.25 million tonnes a year by 2030.

The scheme also targets developing transport infrastructure of local roads, railways and waterways connecting to ports, with priority for building coastal roads, upgrading Hanoi - Lao Cai and Hanoi - Hai Phong railway routes, and effectively tapping local waterway transport links to Hai Phong and Quang Ninh ports./.
