Over 1.5 million foreigners visit Vietnam in first month of 2019

(CPV) – Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam was estimated to reach 1.5 million, an increase of 9.3% from the previous month and a year-on-year rise of 5%, according to Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Of this, the number of foreigners traveling by air posted more than 1.16 million, making up 77.7% while those traveling by sea and road numbered 24,157 (1.6%) and 310.406 (20.7%).

Markets sending tourists to Vietnam saw higher increase from the same period last year, including: Thailand (39.7%), Taiwan-China (31.4%), the Republic of Korea (23%), Hong Kong – China (13.4%), Norway (11.%), Japan (11.3%) and the US (11%).

The number of tourists from Europe witnessed a slight growth of 3.1%, with visitors from Russia rising 2.2%, the UK 3.9%, France 1.3%, Germany 3.9%, Sweden 6% and Italy 3.9%.

The number of visitors from America and Oceania expanded 7.8% and 0.2%, respectively.

This month, the country served 6.6 million domestic tourists, in which 3.4 million tourists stayed overnight; grossing revenue of VND56.5 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 6.6%.

In 2019, Vietnam strives to greet about 18 million international tourists and serve about 85 million domestic tourists, earning a revenue of more than VND700 trillion./.
