The event was attended by Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue.
The annual event is part of activities to celebrate the 38th anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20), as well as the fine tradition of Hanoi’s education sector honouring the outstanding achievements of collectives and individuals in the emulation movement of "Teaching and Studying Well".
It also offers an opportunity for Hanoi students to express their respect for their teachers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Pham Xuan Tien said that the 2019-2020 academic year is a special one for Hanoi’s education sector as it has faced the complicated and diverse developments of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The unit has actively coordinated with the Hanoi Department of Health to direct and guide epidemic prevention and control work, thus ensuring safety for more than two million students.
The department has advised city leaders to promptly deploy flexible teaching methods amid the pandemic, such as teaching via television and online as well as active learning on the Hanoi Study software, which greatly helped facilitate students during the previous lockdown.
In the 2019-2020 school year, Hanoi's educational scale continued to expand to a total of 2,794 kindergartens and schools with over 2.1 million students.
In recognition of the contributions by local teachers, at the commendation ceremony, the Emulation and Reward Council of Hanoi awarded the emulation title to 26 groups, while 40 teachers were honoured with an enthusiasm and creativity award at the event.
On the occasion, 21 collectives, education and training offices as well as schools in the capital city also received Emulation Flags granted by the Hanoi authorities and the Ministry of Education and Training./.
