On April 20, 2021, the Hanoi City Party Committee issued Decision 948-QD/TU establishing a Steering Committee to implement the project of preserving, embellishing and promoting the value of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa Relic site with the task of directing, guiding and inspecting the implementation of the project of conservation, embellishment and promotion of values in these two special national relic sites.
The Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center was assigned by the Hanoi People's Committee as the investor of projects in the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site. Up to now, the center has implemented 20 projects at the two locations. Of which, 13 projects have been completed, handed over and put into operation and 7 projects are underway.
The biggest problem in preserving and promoting the value of Thang Long Imperial Citadel is the unification of the ground, in which the Vietnam Military History Museum and the Petrol Station on Nguyen Tri Phuong Street are still managed by the Ministry of National Defense and land used by individuals. The Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center recommends that the relevant authorities step in and soon unify the management according to the Government's commitment to UNESCO.
Besides, the Center also proposed Hanoi City People's Committee allow the use of some works in the area of T66 Guest Station (Ministry of Defense) for storage and preservation of artifacts; propose to increase entrance fees and service charges at Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site; expand and increase the length of extracurricular learning programs for students in association with learning about Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the Hanoi City People's Committee Chu Ngoc Anh suggested the agencies continue to strengthen the Steering Committee; and assign specific tasks and fields of the members of the Steering Committee.
He requested that projects on conservation, embellishment and promotion of the value of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa relic site be elaborated in detail, bringing the projects into the public investment plan in the 2021-2025 period. He also said that conservation and restoration projects must be based on rigorous scientific research, thereby creating consensus among experts and people./.
