Hanoi to set up 10 libraries and bookcases in 2021

(CPV) - Hanoi People's Committee issued Plan 119/KH-UBND on May 10, 2021 to organize reading culture activities in 2021 to meet the reading needs of the people in the Capital, develop the culture and people of Hanoi on the basis of promoting the tradition of Thang Long - Hanoi thousand years of civilization, City For Peace, Creative City and absorbing the cultural quintessence of mankind.

Accordingly, in 2021, the city will focus on improving the operational efficiency of the library system; organize Vietnam Book Day (April 21); the Capital Children's Contest to introduce books in 2021; exchange of authors and works; book exhibitions to celebrate major holidays and important events of the country at libraries; and organize classes to guide skills and reading methods.
Besides, the city will build and consolidate the public library system; encourage organizations and individuals to establish and maintain community libraries and private libraries serving the local community; maintain and develop the network of libraries and bookcases in Hanoi. It is expected that in 2021, 10 new libraries and bookcases will be established.
Library services are also more diversified. In which, the mobile library service is expected to reach 50 school sites in the suburbs of Hanoi, serving 40,000 students with 120,000 books. During the year, the city library system will circulate 50,000 copies of books to 125 libraries, grassroots bookcases, school libraries, prisons and private libraries serving the community in the city.
In particular, the Hanoi Book Fair - 2021 is expected to take place from September 29 to October 3 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel at 19C Hoang Dieu, Ba Dinh district.
The Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports is the standing agency, responsible for presiding over and coordinating with other departments, agencies and sectors to organize the implementation of this plan.
