Vietnam, EU strengthen defence cooperation

Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien has emphasized that in recent times, despite the serious consequences of COVID-19, Vietnam and the EU have made efforts to strengthen connectivity by organizing a number of direct and virtual exchange activities.

He noted outstanding activities such as the second Vietnam - EU Defense and Security Dialogue in December 2020, and discussions on a number of EU projects for the region.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence made the statements during his reception for Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti, Head of the EU Delegation to Vietnam, on May 25.

Thanking Vietnam for supporting and inviting the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy to attend and speak at the guest program during the ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020, Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti expressed his confidence that in the coming time, defense cooperation between Vietnam and the EU will develop strongly.

The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen exchanges and propose some appropriate cooperation contents in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on a number of areas such as United Nations peacekeeping and the organization of the third Vietnam-EU defense and security dialogue./.
