The monument covers an area of 1,000m2 within 6,000m2 of the Hun Sen Flower Garden, and its construction is scheduled for completion in December this year.

Speaking at the ceremony, both Standing Vice President and Secretary General of the National Council of Solidarity Front for Development of Cambodia Nhem Valy, and Governor of Kep province Ken Satha said that the construction of the monument in Kep province is an important event in the relationship between the two countries, and especially of Kep province with Vietnam.

It also shows the gratitude of the Cambodian people to Vietnam for assisting Cambodia as they escaped the Pol Pot genocide, and to educate younger generations about the support that Vietnam gave to Cambodia.

Colonel Nguyen Anh Dung, Vietnamese Defence Attaché in Cambodia, emphasized that the construction of the monument on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations, expresses the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

The building of the monument is part of a project to repair and build Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in Cambodia, which is funded by Vietnam's Ministry of National Defence. Eight out of 17 such monuments across Cambodia have been completed or restored./.
