ASEAN promotes relations with Venezuela and Caribbean countries

The Embassies of ASEAN countries in Caracas have recently coordinated with Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassies of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to organize the 2024 ASEAN-CARICOM friendship football tournament.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister of Venezuela Raúl Licausi highly appreciated the fact that the Embassies of ASEAN countries in Carcas have regularly organized cultural and sports exchange activities in the area.

He said that the 2024 ASEAN-CARICOM Friendship Football Tournament is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, friendship and  mutual understanding between Southeast Asian countries and the Caribbean region.

CARICOM Rotating Chairman in Caracas, Ambassador of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Edmund Dillon highly appreciated the spirit of close attachment and cooperation among ASEAN countries, as well as the impressive economic achievements of member countries, saying that the relationship of mutual understanding between diplomatic representative agencies of the two blocs is the basis for promoting inter-regional cooperation and connection between CARICOM and ASEAN in the coming time; hoping that this exchange activity will be maintained every year.

As Rotating Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Caracas (ACC), on behalf of the ASEAN member countries, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My thanked the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassies of CARICOM countries in Venezuela for their coordination to organize the sports exchange event.

Ambassador Vu Trung My emphasized that this is a very meaningful event in the context of activities commemorating the 57th anniversary of ASEAN (August 1967 - August 2024) and the 51st anniversary of CARICOM (August 1973 - August 2024).

Recently, the Embassies of ASEAN countries in Venezuela have regularly coordinated with the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize many meaningful events to promote friendly relations and cooperation between ASEAN and Venezuela, as well as between ASEAN and regional organizations such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the African Union (AU).

Activities such as ASEAN Film Week, ASEAN Culinary Festival, Sports Day, and ASEAN Family Day, aim to enhance understanding, solidarity and friendship among officials, employees and family members of the representative agencies of ASEAN countries in Venezuela and diplomatic representative offices of countries in Venezuela./.
