Golf tournament held in Belgium to raise funds for Vietnamese AO victims

The 11th Vietnamese Ambassador’s Golf Cup has been held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium and Chris Geyskens, Chairwoman of the Belgium chapter of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) in Hoi An in Genappe town of Belgium in order to raise funds for Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims in Hoi An city, Quang Nam central province.

The event attracted the participation of 62 golfers from Belgium, Vietnam and Luxembourg.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium Nguyen Van Thao highly appreciated Geyskens's initiative and tireless efforts over the past decade to organise the golf tournament and raise funds in support of Vietnamese AO victims.

Her contributions have contributed significantly to helping AO victims improve their lives, and strengthening friendship and understanding between Vietnam and Belgium, he said.

All sum of money raised from the golf tournament will be given to the VAVA Hoi An to support victims’ families to develop their family economy through activities such as raising chickens, growing mushrooms, raising fish, growing vegetables and doing tourism business.

Within the framework of the event, an exchange of 30 businessmen, diplomats, Vietnamese, and Belgian friends was also held to create an opportunity for them to learn about investment and business opportunities in Vietnam and promote the country's image to international friends.

Visitors to the tournament also enjoyed traditional musical instrument performances by artists from the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France to promote Vietnamese culture.

As of 2023, a total of 1.65 billion VND was raised through the golf tournaments./.
