Vietnamese Ambassador to US pays working visit to Utah State

Within the framework of the working visit from May 22-25, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States (US) Nguyen Quoc Dung met and exchanged with Senator Jerry Stevenson, Chairman of the Utah Senate Approval Committee; Mayor of Salt Lake City Erin Mendenhall; Mr. Franz Kolb, Head of Economic Development Agency of Utah Governor's Office, and the business community at Utah World Trade Center.

The Ambassador also delivered his speech at the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy and major universities including: Brigham Young University (BYU), University of Utah, and University of Westminster.

On this occasion, the Ambassador met a number of overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese students, artists, Vietnam’s friends and partners living and working in Utah.

Exchanging with Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung, leaders of Utah State and Salt Lake City highly appreciated the cooperation potential with Vietnamese localities; expressed their willingness to promote delegation exchanges, trade and investment promotion and people-to-people exchanges.

The state leaders were committed to creating more favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, work and study in Salt Lake City and Utah, and dedicate more resources to grant scholarships for Vietnamese students in Utah.

Representatives of nearly 80 businesses in Utah said that they have been planning to invest in and do business with Vietnam, and highly appreciate the guidelines and policies of the government of Vietnamese relating to foreign investment.

Utah businesses are eager to choose Vietnam as a leading destination in their supply chain diversification strategy. It is expected that in July this year, the Governor of Utah will send a delegation to promote trade in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the program, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung spoke at an event co-organized by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) and the The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy on May 23; exchanged with leaders, professors and students from the University of Utah, Brigham Young University and the University of Westminster about the relationship between Vietnam and the US.

The delegates expressed their delight at the progress of reconciliation and cooperation in dealing with the consequences of war, and the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the US; and were impressed with Vietnam's multifaceted achievements after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi as well as the good development of the two countries' relations over the past time.

Utah, in the western US, with a population of more than 3 million, is considered one of the most dynamic and high-growth localities in the country. Fields such as high technology, tourism, and mining are the economic strengths of Utah. The state has close relations with Vietnam in many fields./.
