The trial shipment represents a positive sign for the future export of agricultural products to China by rail.
According to General Director of the Railway Transport and Trading Joint Stock Company (Ratraco) Tran The Hung, all preparations for the transportation of the fruit, including infrastructure, containers, wagons, and others, have been completed.
As expected, on average about 300 tonnes of lychees are set to be transported to Pingxiang Station in Guangxi, China, via Kep station each day.
Transportation by rail will help to shorten the travel time and avoid congestion occurring at border gates, therefore, the overall quality of lychees will be better.
In 2023, more than 17,000 hectares of lychees are grown in Luc Ngan district with an estimated output of about 98,000 tonnes, including over 3,900 hectares of early ripening lychees.
The railway station has launched its international freight transportation services since February 2023. Its handling capacity is from 80 to 100 carriages or containers per day./.
