The first storm of the year to hit the northern province of Quang Ninh did devastating and deadly consequences which had not been witnessed in the region for over 40 years.
It caused flood claiming 17 lives and VND2.7 trillion in damage to property and farmland. Hundreds of houses were destroyed, thousands of others were flooded; thousands of hectares of crops and fish farms, together with many infrastructure projects under-construction were badly damaged.

With the assistance from the central budget and the efforts from the local level, so far, production and people’s normal lives have regained stability.
To help the province continue to mitigate the consequences of the flood, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked ministries and agencies to work with the province to stabilise people’s lives and resume production, especially in the coal industry.
He agreed with the project on evacuating people from coal slide areas and those in danger of landslides.
The Deputy Prime Minister has also assigned the Ministry of Finance to address the budget for the provincial budget to overcome the environmental pollution caused by coal exploitation and upgrading the infrastructure constructions damaged by the flood./.
