APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy Meeting closes

The second APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy (PPWE 2) Meeting closed in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, on September 27th.

This is the first official meeting of the 2017 APEC Women and the Economy Forum.

The two-day event officially adopted the Joint Declaration on Women and the Economy, which will be submitted to Ministers and Leaders of APEC economies at the high policy dialogue on Women and the Economy (ministerial meeting) on September 29th.

Once adopted at the dialogue, the Declaration will be presented to APEC leaders in November 2017, in Da Nang. 

The contents of the Declaration focus on two themes “Strengthening the integration and improving the economic power of women in a changing world”. It addresses issues of gender equality which should be prioritized, such as: narrowing the gender gap in accessing sustainable work, assets and skills in order to enhance the economic and financial integration of women; accessing health care services for women; and raising the rate of public investment in social services and infrastructure.

Also on September 27th, two sideline activities were organized successfully, including the Women and Transport Forum co-chaired by the Ministry of Transport, and the APEC Best Award co-held by the Central Committee of Vietnam Women’s Union.

The 2017 APEC Women and the Economy Forum is a chance for Vietnam and other APEC economies to contribute to common achievements and efforts, she noted, applauding APEC leaders’ recognition of the importance of women in the region./.
