Hanoi sees slight CPI rise in March

Hanoi’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March decreased 0.13% from previous month and increased 4.05% from the same period last year, reported the city Statistics Office.

Specifically, CPI of restaurants and catering services group saw the sharpest reduction at 1.31%; followed by entertainment and tourism group 0.3%; post and telecom group 0.17%; and both clothing, hats and footwear group and housing devices and appliances group 0.11%.

Other groups had stable price indexes, equaling to the same period last year or increasing slightly. Prices of gold and US dollar fluctuated insignificantly with a reduction of 0.08% in gold and a 0.2% rise in US dollar.

Notably, housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials had a price hike of 0.6% from the previous month due to world gas price in March 2019 at USD505 a ton, up USD50 a ton against February.

In addition, production and investment costs rose, pushing domestic gas price to about VND170,000 a tank from March 1st. Kerosene price was adjusted up from early March, resulting in a 4.62% rise in price index of kerosene group./.
