Ho Chi Minh city raises fund to support flood victims

The Ho Chi Minh city Public Sector Union launched a donation drive on October 16th to support people in the North and Central regions of Vietnam affected by recent natural calamities.

At the launch, the organizing board collected more than VND119 million.

The recent floods in the Northern Central and Northern provinces have caused great damage to people and property. As of October 15th, 71 people were killed, 33 were missing, and 30 were injured, 189 houses were destroyed, more than 30,800 houses were flooded; thousands of hectares of crops were damaged, tens of thousands of cattle and poultry were killed or swept away. The most serious damage occurred in Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Yen Bai provinces.

To support the victims of natural disasters, the Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh city Fatherland Front Committee proposed to dedicate VND4 billion from the city's rescue fund to support the affected people in Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Yen Bai provinces.

In early August, the Northern provinces suffered continuous heavy rains causing flash floods, landslides and floods, that caused serious damage to people and property, especially in Son La, Yen Bai and Dien Bien provinces. Shortly thereafter, in early September, the people of the central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue were seriously affected by Storm No. 10.

In the face of the above damage, the Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh city Fatherland Front Committee also called on people from all over the country and abroad to support the Northern mountainous and Central provinces affected by the natural calamities.

It and the city rescue board have proposed to organize a number of delegations to visit, encourage and transfer VND13 billion to support the provinces to overcome the consequences caused by natural calamities./.
