Ho Chi Minh city marks Cuban National Day

A meeting was held in Ho Chi Minh city on January 9th by the city Union of Friendship Organizations and the city Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association to mark the 59th anniversary of Cuban National Day (January 1st) and award the painting contest in commemoration of the 50th death anniversary of Che Guevara.

Congratulating the Cuban people on this great day, Truong Thi  Hien, President of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh city, confirmed that in modern history there were few relationship as special as that between Vietnam and Cuba. “Over the past half of century, the close relationship between the brothers has become more and more profound,” she said.

According to Ms Hien, the cooperation between the two countries is being expanded in diverse areas like agriculture, industry, oil and gas, construction, culture, education, science and technology.

Addressing the meeting, Cuban Consul General to Ho Chi Minh city Indira Lopez Arguelles said that January 1st, 1959, was a special day, marking the victory of Cuba’s revolution with the sacrifice of hundreds of teenagers and the leadership of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

She confirmed that Cuba and Vietnam had set up a close relationship which has been strengthened by educational and healthcare cooperation. “Over the past years, Cuba has realized its policy in updating economic models for development in which it learned from the experience of brother Vietnam”, she said.

During the meeting, the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh city awarded the painting contest in commemoration of the 50th death anniversary of Che Guevara. Attracting 34 works from students and 355 from children and pupils, the contest awarded 34 works, including three first prizes./.
