This visit is significant in promoting cooperation between French language schools in Can Tho and schools in France to enhance education quality and expand opportunities for French language learning for students. It also aims to strengthen cultural and educational exchanges between teachers and students, further fostering ties between Vietnam and France.
The delegation included Mrs. Le Thi Thanh Giang, Chairwoman of the Union of Friendship Organizations of Can Tho City; Mr. Nguyen Phuc Tang, Deputy Director of the Can Tho City Department of Education and Training and Chairman of the Vietnam-France Friendship Association of Can Tho City; along with representatives of management and teachers from several primary, secondary and high schools in Can Tho that offer bilingual French programs.
During the friendship exchange in France, facilitated by the Association Grandis et Deviens (G&D/France), the delegation visited several primary schools, including Doulevant-le-Chateau, Dommartin le Franc and Du Vieux Chene Public Primary School. They also worked on signing memoranda of understanding (MOUs) for cooperation between three primary schools in Can Tho and the three French primary schools.
Mrs. Le Thi Thanh Giang expressed her hopes that the cooperation between schools would help sustain and develop the French language teaching movement in Can Tho, promote the values of the Francophone community, and create opportunities for students to learn and communicate in French. She also aims to leverage resources for teaching and learning French.
During the visit to the G&D organization, Mrs. Le Thi Thanh Giang sought further collaboration, particularly in education, and hoped for additional support from the organization for Can Tho in implementing programs and projects to improve community health, support livelihoods, and create a foundation for the city's socio-economic development.
Since 2013, the Union of Friendship Organizations and G&D/France have agreed to implement free medical programs for disadvantaged elderly people, provide scholarships for underprivileged children, and support Can Tho's Social Work Center and charity classes. G&D/France also assists Vietnamese students studying in France and offers French language classes for local students, with a total project funding of over VND1 billion in Can Tho over the years.
During this trip, the delegation also visited Lyon 1 University and the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association in France to coordinate practical programs for the youth communities of both countries, contributing to promoting the positive image of Vietnam to French and international friends./.
