In a talk with Mr. Kiss Ferenc, Acting President of the Socialist Party of Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, after the flower-laying ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai sincerely thanked the Hungarian government and people for their valuable support in the struggle for national independence and reunification in the past, as well as in the current construction and development of Vietnam.

He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the Socialist Party of Zalaegerszeg’s care and maintenance of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Hungary.

Mr. Kiss Ferenc, Acting President of the Socialist Party of Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, expressed his joy and emotion in welcoming the HCMC delegation. He affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Hungary in 1957 laid a solid foundation for the good friendship between the peoples of the two countries. He also said he believed that the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries will continue to develop extensively in all fields.

The statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Zalaegerszeg City is located about 240 km west of Budapest. The statue was created by the famous Hungarian sculptor Marton László (1925-2008) in 1976. He depicted Uncle Ho in a simple yet very sharp and soulful manner, resembling an “Old Man of Cao Bang.” Behind the statue is engraved Uncle Ho’s famous saying: “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom.”

Inaugurated on the occasion of the first anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification (April 30, 1976), Marton László’s statue of President Ho Chi Minh won the Hungarian Ministry of Culture’s award in 1977 and has become a part of Zalaegerszeg City’s culture./.
