Speaking at the event, Mai Ba Hung, President of the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that in December 1955, Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic relations, and in June 2013, they elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership. Vietnam became Indonesia’s only strategic partner in Southeast Asia. Since then, the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries has continuously been strengthened and developed comprehensively and extensively, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The political relationship has become increasingly close, reaching a high level of trust; the frequency of exchanges and contacts at various levels, including high-level ones, has been increasing.

Within ASEAN, Indonesia is currently Vietnam's third-largest trading partner, while Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth-largest trading partner. In recent times, Vietnam and Indonesia have also coordinated and supported each other in various organizations and multilateral forums, contributing to strengthening ASEAN solidarity and centrality, maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and around the world.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Consulate General of Indonesia has made significant efforts to promote economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Indonesia. Besides economic activities, it has also shown great interest in cultural, sports and educational cooperation.

Mr. Hung expressed confidence that in the future, Vietnam and Indonesia will enhance people-to-people exchanges through cultural, sports, educational and tourism activities, allowing the people of the two countries more opportunities to meet, interact and understand each other, thereby expanding cooperation in various other fields.

On this occasion, he extended his best wishes to the country and people of Indonesia for continued prosperity and happiness, and wished for the friendship between the two countries to develop sustainably.

Agustaviano Sofjan, Consul General of Indonesia to Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his joy at attending the 79th Independence Day celebration of the Republic of Indonesia organized by the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations.
