60 young overseas Vietnamese join summer camp in HCMC

As many as 60 young overseas Vietnamese from 14 foreign countries and territories and local youths have joined in an annual summer camp which was launched by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and the city’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on July 11.

This year’s summer camp will take place in HCMC and Binh Thuan province from July 11-15.  It will include a city tour, voluntary youth programs to visit and present gifts to poor students in Can Gio district and Binh Thuan province; and a trip to beautiful beaches in the southern coast city of Phan Thiet in Binh Thuan province and exchanges with local youths there.

In Binh Thuan, they are also scheduled to visit Duc Thanh School where Uncle Ho taught before he left the country to seek ways for national salvation, learn about the culture and architecture works of Cham ethnic people at Poshanu tower, and visit the fish sauce museum and Ta Cu Mountain.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Dinh Thi Phuong Thao, Vice Chairwoman of the HCMC Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and Head of the Organizing Committee of the summer camp, said that the camp aims to create a healthy, useful playground to share and spread to young overseas Vietnamese and youth in the city the achievements, innovation and development of the city and the country; experience and visit many landscapes, historical sites and traditional craft villages, contributing to improving understanding and nurturing the love of homeland among the young generation.

Over the past 16 summer camps, the organizing board has welcomed nearly 1,000 young overseas Vietnamese from around the globe./.
