Tours to Son Doong cave suspended for four months

Aiming to renew the ecosystem and ensure safety for tourists in the rainy season, Son Doong cave in the central coastal province of Quang Binh will suspend tourism exploitation from September to the end of December 2018.

The closure of Son Doong Cave is made at the request of British grotto experts and approved by the Quang Binh provincial People’s Committee.
Oxalis company continues to be commissioned to conduct tours to Son Doong, the world’s largest cave, in 2019 and 2020 with the target of 1,000 explorers a year.
From January to August 2018, the company has organized 91 tours with 873 explorers to the cave within four days and three nights by crossing 90-meter wall of stalactite called “Vietnam Wall”.
Son Doong Cave was discovered in 2010 and shocked the world. It is called the “Priceless Jade” of Quang Binh in particular and Vietnam in general.
The New York Times ranked Son Doong as one of the eight most attractive tourist destinations in the world, while Business Insider honored the cave as one of the 9 most wonderful caves.
The prestigious science magazine Smithsonian ranked Son Doong among the Top 25 tourist destinations of the 21st century and Huffington Post placed it at fifth place among the 10 destinations which visitors should visit once in their life./.
