Ho Chi Minh city plans to develop waterway taxi

The Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee has just assigned the Department of Transport to realize and approve the project of strengthening public passenger transport in combination with controlling of the use of personal motor vehicles, especially towards developing the waterway public passenger transport system.

Accordingly, the department will research, invest in and develop a waterway passenger transport route from Ho Chi Minh city to Tien Giang and Long An provinces in the 2021-2025 period.

At the same time, the city will develop and diversify types of waterway transport by water bus and water taxi for urban passenger transport and tourism, including: route 1 of Saigon - District 7; route 2 of Saigon - Binh Loi, Binh Hoa; route 3 of Saigon - Te Canal - Double Canal - Cho Dem River; route 4 of Saigon - Hiep Phuoc; route 5 of Bach Dang - Rach Chiec - Eastern subdivision of VinCity; route 6 of Saigon River - Vam Thuat River - Ben Cat Canal - Truong Dai River - Tham Luong Canal in the 2026 – 2030 period.

In the 2021-2030 period, the city prioritizes the collection of fees for the use of works, infrastructure, service works and public utilities in the seaport border gate area./.
