The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is preparing a project and working with relevant ministries and branches, such as the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and the Kien Giang People’s Committee to ask for permission to pilot welcoming international visitors to the pearl island of Phu Quoc.

The project mentions many contents on receiving tourists, ensuring security and order, entry and handling situations related to the COVID-19 epidemic (if any); and proposes vaccination against COVID-19 for about 70% of people on Phu Quoc Island.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the pilot activity is very significant in stimulating tourism development and quickly recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the international tourists market.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is collecting suggestions of ministries and sectors on the pilot plan and process of welcoming international visitors with “vaccine passport” to Phu Quoc in 6 months, starting from October 2021.
According to the draft plan, the reception of international tourists with “vaccine passports” has two phases. In the first phase (3 months), Phu Quoc will pilot welcoming about 2,000-3,000 tourists a month, via charter flights and tourists will be served with limited scope and locations.
In the second phase 2 (3 months), the scale will expand from 5,000-10,000 tourists a month; tourists can travel via commercial flights; the scope and location of services will be expanded. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to welcome 25,000-40,000 international tourists to Phu Quoc during the six months./.
