Vietnam counts 30.5 million tourists in first half

Domestic tourists in Vietnam were estimated to reach 30.5 million in the first half of 2021, of which 15.8 million tourists stayed overnight at accommodation establishments, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

Revenue from tourism was estimated at 134 trillion VND, down 24.2% from the same period last year.

Deputy Head of the VNAT Ha Van Sieu said that although the tourism industry was heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the administration has focused on developing tourism system planning for the 2021-2023 period, with a vision to 2045; formulating a Decree on the national tourist area management model; developing a project on model of night tourism product; and developing an action plan for tourism development in the 2021-2025 period.

At the same time, the VNAT also advised and proposed policies and solutions to support businesses, employees and employers facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic, and quickly restore the market, the VNAT is coordinating with relevant units to develop pilot plans and procedures to welcome international visitors to Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang; implement the project of promoting the model of sharing economy, night economy; and boost tourism promotion, research of science - technology - environment, international cooperation, communication and digital transformation in tourism./.
