(CPV) - The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam reached 11.3 million from January to August 2019, in which Asia sent the most foreigners to the country, said the General Statistics Office (GSO) on August 29th.

Specifically, Asian travelers accounted for 78.1% of the total number, a year-on-year rise of 9.9%. While the number of travelers from China decreased 0.9%, those from the Republic of Korea increased 22.5%; Japan 13.7%; Malaysia 14.6% and Thailand 46.3%.
Numbers of European tourists rose 5.3% compared to the same period last year, including Russia 5.7%, the UK 4.5%, France 0.9%, and Germany 5.6%. Tourist arrivals from America also went up 6.2% from the same period last year.
According to GSO, revenue from accommodation and catering services was estimated at nearly VND368 trillion in the eight months, accounting for 12% and increasing by 9.8% year on year. Revenue from tourism and travel services reached nearly VND30 trillion, making up 0.9% and rising by 12.1% year on year.
In order to develop high-spending markets, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has sent a delegation to promote tourism at the American Society of Travel Agents Global Convention, in Florida. This is the first time Vietnam joined the event in order to attract more foreign tourists in the near future.
In 2019, the tourism sector set a target of welcoming from 17.5-18 million foreign tourists and providing services to about 85 million domestic visitors, earning a revenue of about VND700 trillion./.
