Duong Lam is the first-recognized ancient village in Vietnam in 2006. It has a history of about 1,200 years, with many current houses dating back up to 400 years.
It is about a 50km drive west of Hanoi, famous for “the land of two kings” of Vietnamese history.
The highlight of the ancient village is the Mong Phu gate, this is the only ancient village gate left to this day in Duong Lam.
Duong Lam still retains most of the characteristics of a typical Vietnamese village: a village gate, banyan trees, a wharf, a communal yard, pagodas, temples, a well, and rice fields.
According to statistics, the cultural heritage complex in Duong Lam has 50 valuable relics, in which 7 were classified as national relics, 2 relics and 10 ancient houses were ranked at the provincial and city level, and 98 traditional ancient houses with long dates and 17 big festivals at relics.
Earlier, the second ancient village in Vietnam, Phuoc Tich, was also recognized as a tourism destination following Decision 2186/QD-UBND of the Thua Thien Hue provincial People’s Committee (dated September 9th, 2019).
The village has been famous for pottery making for more than 500 years, and its centuries old house system with very peaceful space./.
