Hanoi greets some 29 million tourists in 2019

(CPV) - Number of tourists to Hanoi was estimated at nearly 29 million in 2019, a year-on-year rise of 10.1%. Of this, foreign tourists numbered 7.02 million, a year-on-year increase of 17%, including over 4.9 million foreigners staying overnight.

2019 also witnessed record of tourism revenue for the capital with over VND103.8 trillion from tourists, a 34% rise from the previous year.
Destinations luring most tourists include: the Huong Son scenic relic, Tan Da mineral stream resort, Thien Son Suoi Nga eco-tourism area, Duong Lam ancient village, Hanoi old streets, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Vietnam National Museum of History, Temple of Literature and Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.
These results came from efforts on building the tourism brand, improving the quality of services and destinations, and changing the method of tourism promotion. The highlight of hosting the 2nd DPRK-US Summit offered chances for the capital to promote the image of a friendly, safe and culturally rich destination; creating new impetus for the city’s tourism, especially for international visitors.
Over the past year, Hanoi was voted as an impressive destination by many travel agencies and prestigious travel news organizations around the world. Specifically, the capital was honoured as one of 19 candidates in the category of World's Leading City Destination 2019. The award is considered the Oscar of the tourism industry.
In 2020, the city strives to attract about 32 million tourists, a year-on-year rise of 10.2%; including 8.22 million foreigners (about 5.77 million staying overnight), up 17%.
Total tourism turnover is expected to reach over VND116.7 trillion, up 12.5%, while room occupancy is forecast to reach 65-68%./.
