At a press conference held in Hanoi on September 9, Nguyen Ngoc Trong, Deputy General Director of Bamboo Airways, said the airline planned to operate the routes twice a day from Hanoi to Con Dao and Vinh to Con Dao plus one daily flight from Hai Phong to Con Dao route. The frequency on the routes would be gradually increased depending on demand.
“The launch of the new direct routes would not only offer opportunities for passengers from the localities in the northern and central regions to fly to Con Dao with different schedules and services, but also make a practical contribution to the post-pandemic tourism market stimulus,” Trong said.
In addition, the new routes are expected to create new momentum to attract investment and enhancing links between Con Dao and important destinations, thereby contributing to making Con Dao a tourist paradise with regional and international stature.
Nguyen Manh Quan, deputy general director of Bamboo Airways said the air fares would be flexible with many price ranges and would be regulated according to market supply and demand. The prices are based on regulations of aviation authorities on a ceiling price basis so that all passengers can access the fare. The lowest price offered by Bamboo Airways is only 1.6 million VND on one-way direct flight from Hanoi to Con Dao.
Quan said the airline would use the new generation Embraer E195 jet aircraft on the new routes, which they expect to be delivered later this month in time for the first flight.
Bamboo Airways would become the first airline in Vietnam operating this modern aircraft.
The Embraer E195 jet has a maximum speed of 871 kilometres per hour, a maximum range of 4,260 kilometres, averaging approximately two hours and 10 minutes to take passengers from Hanoi to Con Dao.
He added that Bamboo Airways would use six Embraer E195 planes. The airline would increase the frequency when Tan Son Nhat International Airport completes repair work to meet with travel demand.
The airline also aims to open new air routes Phu Quoc-Rach Gia, HCM City-Ca Mau, Da Nang-Dien Bien and Da Nang-Con Dao in the fourth quarter this year.
FLC Group – the parent group of Bamboo Airways proposed the Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) approved funding to install lights at Con Dao Airport, to allow the airport to increase flight capacity during the night.
In 2019, Con Dao welcomed nearly 400,000 tourists, an increase of 37 percent compared to 2018. After the period of social distance in early 2020, data showed the frequency of flights between HCM City and Can Tho to and from Con Dao was in the fastest recovery group./.
