Foreign tourists to Vietnam rise sharply in first month of 2021

(CPV) - Vietnam greeted 17,736 foreign visitors in January 2021, an increase of 9% from the previous month but a decrease of 99.1% compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.

The number of international visitors are mainly experts, foreign technical workers working in projects in Vietnam and drivers transporting gooda at road border gates.

Visitors arriving by air reached 11,118 arrivals, down 99.3%; arrivals by road reached 6,575, down 97.8%; arrivals by sea only reached 43, down 99.9%.

Visitors from Asia accounted for the lion’s share with 89% while those from Europe reached estimated 1.185 million, down 99.5%.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services was estimated to have risen 2.7% against December while tourism revenue inched up 0.7%./.
