Tay Phuong Pagoda recognized as special national relic tourist site

The Hanoi People’s Committee has just issued Decision 2475/QD-UBND, recognizing Tay Phuong Pagoda as the special national relic tourist site.

In this Decision, the City People’s Committee assigned the Thach That District Culture, Information and Sports Center to organize the management of the tourist destination, and is responsible for managing, exploiting and developing the tourist spot in accordance with the regulations of the Law on Tourism and related legal documents.

Tay Phuong Pagoda is a relic in the form of artistic architecture, located in Thach Xa commune, Thach That district, about 40km from west of Hanoi city center. 

Tay Phuong Pagoda is located on the top of a mountain more than 100m high, consisting of three parallel pagodas along the mountainside. The pagoda has been restored many times. During the Tay Son Dynasty 1788-1802, it was rebuilt and has been kept the same architectural shape until today.

The most prominent feature in Tay Phuong Pagoda are more than 70 statues along with reliefs, mainly carved with jackfruit wood, painted with gilded lacquer.

With the values of architecture, history and religion, Tay Phuong Pagoda was recognized as a National Cultural – Historical Relic in 1962 and ranked as a Special National Monument and in 2014.

In 2015, the set of Buddhist statues of Tay Phuong Pagoda in the Tay Son Dynasty, dating from the end of the 18th century, was recognized as a national treasure by the Prime Minister./.
